The title for week 12 of our Isaiah study is Christ reigning in the tent of David. To understand this title we need to look at Isaiah 16:5
Then a throne will be established in steadfast love, and on it will sit in faithfulness in the tent of David one who judges and seeks justice and is swift to do righteousness.
We need to make a few connections with this verse. First, David and Christ are intimately related as shown through numerous verses: Jeremiah 30:9, Ezekiel 34:23-24, Ezekiel 37:24-25, Hosea 3:5, Amos 9:11, Matthew 1:1, Matthew 12:1-4, Matthew 22:41-45, Luke 1:32
Their relationship here is related to their Kingship. Christ, like King David, is a King (Matthew 27:11). Also, a throne is in the tent of David which is where a king sits to rule and reign over his kingdom. A throne is also where a king executes judgement. A good king judges righteously. The foundation of God’s throne is righteousness (Psalm 89:14). An awesome verse that ties all this together is Hebrews 1:8
But as to the Son, He says to Him, Your throne, O God, is forever and ever (to the ages of the ages), and the scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of absolute righteousness (of justice and straightforwardness).
Christ is also the righteous judge who has a crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8). The crown is not for Himself but for us. We need to be those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for we will be filled (Matthew 5:6). We get filled with what we are hungering and thirsting for…righteousness. There is a problem, our righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Jesus Christ, Jehovah our Savior, is our righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6, Jeremiah 51:10). We need to be righteous as Christ is righteous because we will rule and reign with Him (Revelation 20:6, Revelation 22:5). We need to be righteous in our dealings and judgements today because one day we will even judge angels (1 Corinthians 6:3). As scary as this sounds, we should say Amen to God’s word. Amen, O God, I agree with Your word. You, O God, are righteous. I am all unrighteousness. I submit to Your throne. Set up Your throne in me. Rule and reign in me. Your kingdom come in me.
